Guests consistently praise the Fife and Drum Inn for its exceptional hospitality, stunning historic building, and unbeatable location near Colonial Williamsburg. However, notable service inconsistencies and functionality issues, such as poor internet coverage, give pause to potential guests.
My husband and I had a wonderful and relaxing stay at the inn this past weekend! The accommodations were so charming; we stayed in the Conservancy room, and it was such a treat to enjoy a bath in the claw foot tub…we loved the location, it was so easy to check in and out, and it was a unique way to enjoy our time in Williamsburg for this visit. We would definitely stay here again!
Love this place everything was amazing from decor, rooms, staff and location. Ashley is such a wonderful person, helped with all of our questions so nice to talk with. The Fife and Drum Inn feels like home. Can’t wait to visit again. I’ve been telling all friends and family about the Fife and Drum Inn
I was pretty disappointed with my stay at the Fife and Drum Inn. It's a decent location (probably the best you can get if you're on vacation to see colonial Williamsburg) and the rooms are nice enough, though a little creaky. Unfortunately, I found the hospitality offered by this hotel is incredibly lacking. This does not feel like a welcoming place, it feels like you're tip-toeing around the live-in host of a budget AirBnB. You will essentially never see the staff of this hotel for your entire visit, so there isn't really any way to ask questions or get help with anything. There's no front desk --- just a weird creepy office beside the breakfast area. When there is somebody in there they are always just on a computer and you approach them from the side so it always feels like you're interrupting something and not supposed to be there. It's unclear if this person is what Fife and Drum considers to be a receptionist or if it's the owner, or what. I found it incredibly awkward and uncomfortable eating breakfast in the dining area with this person lurking silently in the office. It just felt like I didn't belong there and was intruding. My room the first night was incredibly cold, and I was baffled why there wasn't a blanket available anywhere. I eventually found a blanket in a drawer the next day, but it would have been nice to have some indication that this existed, maybe that should be indicated on the welcome sheet. This hotel does not have house keeping come by until after your visit, I believe you can request it, but it feels difficult to do so. There is only rarely a staff member at the hotel hidden in the weird and creepy office. Approaching this person is awkward, and it's unclear to me if they're supposed to be the receptionist or what. I don't know if you can talk to them, and it's very unwelcoming. I believe there is a phone number you can call, but again, this does not make me feel like a welcome guest, it makes me feel like I have to be a bother to get any basic amenities like fresh towels. It just feels like a cost cutting measure, which was disappointing given the fact that there are much cheaper places to stay in town. Internet access was a concern for me, as I had to join some business meetings remotely during my stay. Unfortunately the internet connection in my room was unusable. The impression I get is that the entire hotel has a single access point in the office by the breakfast room --- this is not acceptable. The internet did not work in my room, but the hotel staff just thought everything was fine because it's fine within the main office area. They need to address this issue. Please look into having more wireless access points throughout the building. When I went to check out I was hoping that somebody would at least ask me how my stay was so I could bring up a few concerns or something... But completely unsurprisingly there wasn't even anybody in the creepy office, so I just left. I don't really feel like I stayed at a hotel, it felt like I didn't belong there. Overall I had a pretty unpleasant stay. The rooms were decent, but the place felt very unwelcoming, has really lacking breakfast options, and does not have working wifi in the rooms. It's frustrating because it seems like a nice building in a good area. The place has good bones, but I think the operators really need to work on their hospitality.
We stayed at The Fife and Drum for our anniversary. This was, hands down, the best place we have stayed in when we visit Williamsburg. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The Location cannot be beat! We had breakfast at aroma’s every day. We appreciated the patio area and the availability of water and snacks throughout the day. We are definitely staying here on our next visit.
I don’t usually take the time to leave reviews, but the staff at Fife and Drum Inn in Williamsburg absolutely earned it. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality went far beyond expectations. Every single interaction felt personal, not just polite but truly caring. They anticipated what we might need before we even asked and went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. You can tell they take real pride in what they do. The rooms are spotless, charming, and full of character, and the inn is conveniently located within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg’s main attractions, which made exploring the area effortless and enjoyable. It’s rare these days to find service that feels this genuine and heartfelt. The Fife and Drum Inn sets the bar for what customer service should be. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Fife and Drum was perfect while we were visiting. We had no problem checking in when we did late check in. Our rooms were wonderful. Very clean and comfortable. Everyone we interacted with at the Inn was very polite and helpful. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to friends.
Outstanding in all criteria. Not our first time in Williamsburg but first time at the Fife and Drum Inn. This will be our go to place to stay for Williamsburg from now on. Everything is within walking distance but if you want to just laze around in your room, the rooms are a delight and drinks and snacks are available in the breakfast area. Visually, the inn is a joy, not a detail missed from the colors to the furniture, from the bedding to the decor and floors. Thankful for such a lovely experience. Can't wait to come back!
The Fife and Drum is a charming and comfortable place to stay in the heart of Williamsburg. The bed was very comfortable and the room was great. We stayed in the Cedar Suite. The continental breakfast was perfect for our needs and plentiful. All staff nice and accommodating. Highly recommend.
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Fife and Drum a few weeks ago. Our room was cozy and romantic, and you can't beat the location. There are many nice restaurants within a short walk, and you can easily walk to Colonial Williamsburg and related attractions. The staff were super friendly and had lots of great suggestions for hidden gems among nearby restaurants.
We loved staying at the Fife & Drum. The innkeepers were kind and accommodating. The room (William and Mary) was super cute; actually the whole place is just lovely! They literally thought of everything to make you feel comfortable. There are several beautiful touches throughout the property that they didn't have to do, but as guests made us feel special. There is also a cute little rooftop area where we ended up eating dinner (we ordered in) and just hung out up there and chatted. As far as location, you can't get any closer to the historical area and all of the shops and restaurants. And parking was right across the street. It was just the perfect stay, and we will certainly be back.
