This economical vacation rental enjoys a top-tier beachfront location and undergoing renovations that the owner says will eventually modernize the rooms. However, a significant portion of recent feedback cites severe maintenance issues, including mold, pests, and dirty linens, while another group of experiences details aggressive, discriminatory treatment from the ownership.
Yorktown Beach Hotel was great! Easy beach access and a beatiful, historic town thats provides intrigue for any history buffs! The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend, my trip was relaxing and stress-free. Will definitely stay here again in the future!
When I stepped out of my car, a staff member — who I later learned is part of ownership — immediately asked if I was a guest and told me I needed to leave or the sheriff would be called. I felt unsafe during the interaction. When I returned with a sheriff to clarify the situation, the interaction with ownership felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. The way I was treated suggested bias and discriminatory behavior. I will not be returning and would caution others to be aware of the treatment you may receive here. I’m unable to respond so here’s my response: My concern was never about parking policy. It was about the manner in which the policy was enforced. I exited my vehicle briefly, complied immediately when addressed, and was still rushed to leave and threatened with law enforcement. Being questioned about whether I “belonged” and having the situation escalated felt unnecessary and discriminatory. I hope future interactions are handled more respectfully and without intimidation.
We had an excellent stay at Yorktown Beach Hotel! The location is unbeatable—right by the beach and close to shops, restaurants, and local attractions. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making it easy to relax and enjoy the trip. The staff was friendly, professional, and always willing to help with anything we needed, which really made the experience stand out. Everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and stress-free. If you’re looking for a great place to stay near the beach with great service and convenience, I highly recommend Yorktown Beach Hotel. We’ll definitely be back!
Several members of my family and staff had planned to make a trip for the Christmas festivities. Due to incoming inclement weather, a phone call was placed one hour after the 72 hour cutoff imposed by the owner Matt. Matt is impossible to get on the phone and will only respond via email. You are directed to a gentleman named Ryan at the front desk. Who’s condescending tone and habit of talking over the customer while they are trying to communicate is pretty remarkable. We can appreciate a small business and we can appreciate changing conditions, but there was a total of 10 people in the entire party that had planned to make the trip and bought these rooms well over a month in advance. Our only request was not a refund or a cancellation, but just a credit to stay at the facility even on another weekend that didn’t have Christmas festivities as a credit. Ryan was fairly rude in expressing that there is no leniency and no cancellation no exceptions inside that 72 hour window regardless of absolutely anything in the world. So, with that being said, every single member of our party will be drafting a review of their experience. None of them will be attending, and we sincerely hope that the owner enjoys the money for the rooms because it would go against every principal to visit the facility now. One of the members of our party has been coming to the hotel for 40 years. It’s really a shame, and we love to support small businesses, but sadly the Yorktown Beach Motel will never get another dime out of any of us and I would caution any potential customers to really think it through before booking. An inability to pleasantly communicate, and an unwillingness to work with long-term customers are not qualities I would choose to do business with again. Just be aware of the fine print because they will not deviate no matter what the circumstances on season or off.
This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. First, the room was smelly, moldy and looked like I had been updated since the 70’s.! On top that, we had to kill two roaches and the mattresses were old with broken springs. Two beds! Both bad! Lucky for us we were back on the road the next morning and this was just a stop on our long trip to NY. Overpriced! Just because you’re on the beach doesn’t mean you should charge over 200 for a crappy room! I was very disappointed. ??
My wife and I stayed here for the weekend. It was wonderful! We had the opportunity to meet Matt the owner and talk with him for a while. He told us how they were remodeling the hotel and that all the rooms were getting a makeover. If your looking for a nice peaceful getaway for the weekend, look them up!
Rooms aren't going to win an award from any travel magazineslittle, but are clean, comfortable, affordable and have plenty of space. The property is absolutely beautiful with an amazing view of the water from all rooms!
VERY disappointing; the pricing is not comparable with the quality of the room, services, and aesthetics. The hotel sign indicated they are under renovation; this was not mentioned on their website through which I made reservations. I learned from a local person that this renovation has been going on for an inordinate amount of time. The halls and elevator are dated, dim, scuffed, dusty and cobwebby in some spots. I paid for a Queen room, river view, with a jacuzzi tub. The tub was dirty when we arrived. They did promptly respond to my request for housekeeping to remedy that. The freezer section of the fridge was choked with frost. The rest of the room was tired looking, but clean, despite the hot tub...and the bedding was comfortable. A visit to the pool early morning revealed it had not been cleaned; a layer of sand coated the bottom. Navigating there from the main hotel (there are three buildings) was a trek, with few signs indicating how to get there. The Continental breakfast was dismal: cheap prepacked pastries, English muffins, bagels, bowl of apples, one brand of granola bars, yogurt, juices & coffee/tea. My spouse and I got the feeling that the owners are more interested in profits & capitalizing on the location rather than investing in the customer experience.
Matt, Matt, Matt. I’m shocked. Tonight was amazing until I came to rest and saw him in a dispute with a family. Arguing over children being children. Had them escorted by the police. The family was very nice and gave me their seats at the show nearby. I’m appalled and must say that Matt and his wife are not as nice as they may seem. I definitely wouldn’t stay here if your children are adventurous and like to have fun. Save your money. Room was also not the best. It had cobwebs and a giant spider on the curtains!
Stayed here for two nights with my kiddo in a Chesapeake balcony king room as a small "before school starts mini-vacay." Front desk was friendly and texted when our room was ready to check-in, around 1:00pm, which was great. Our room and bathroom were clean (shower, toilet, sink), comfortable bed and pillows, great balcony view as advertised, and a TV, coffee maker, microwave, and fridge. These came in handy, as my little one is always hungry for snacks throughout the day, so we saved money on heating up some microwaveable Mac and cheese, pizza, chicken nuggets, etc. for lunches. Also, hot popcorn on the balcony at night was lovely. The pool and grounds are very pretty; think Magnolia trees, crepe Myrtles, wrought iron chairs and a gazebo. My little one enjoyed the pool both evenings before our awesome dinners at Yorktown Pub (a York County institution). Pool towels are available, too. We met the owners, who live on the property, and they couldn't have been more pleasant; very personable people. The complimentary breakfast was perfect for us, too. English muffins, bagels, pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juice, milk, coffee, etc., exactly what we needed to start each day. The lobby is beautifully redone, and the owner said that's their vision for the rest of the hotel. I was a bit apprehensive reading some bad reviews, but it was exactly what we wanted and we had a great stay. I look forward to going back and seeing how the rest of the renovations turn out. Also, as the only hotel on the water there, their prices are totally fair. You can walk to everything, have a parking spot, and again, a beautiful view. Don't let the bad reviews fool you; it's a lovely hotel.
