The Holiday Inn & Suites – Williamsburg/Gateway generally receives positive feedback, with a strong emphasis on friendly and helpful staff, particularly at the bar and front desk. Guests appreciate the convenient location and cleanliness, though some have experienced issues with room maintenance and inconsistent service.
Woman working the front desk overnight tonight has quite a snappy attitude. Blamed me for my keycard not working and was just unnecessarily full of attitude. Also was talking to her sister with her on speakerphone full volume while guests are in the lobby. Just be a little more professional.
Super great stay at this location! In a convenient, but quiet area of town with lots of stuff to see/do nearby. Rooms/hotel were clean, roomy, and staff was super friendly/helpful. Kerriann helped us out at the bar, our group left super satisfied with her hospitality! We would come back based on this personality alone. 10/10 stay for sure!
This is a great location and we were happy with almost everything - we didn't do the restaurant, but our room was clean and nicely laid out. The front desk staff were really nice, but my only complaint is the timing for cleaning the rooms. They come so late! We left the hotel a little before 8am and didn't get back until 6pm, and the room wasn't cleaned (someone had been in to collect our used towels, but not to leave new ones or to take out the trash or make the beds). The missing towel thing happened to us twice during our stay. Either take our old ones and give us new ones right away or just leave them hanging, stop taking them and running away with them! I have small kids that go to bed early, I can't have my room cleaned that late in the evening.
Kerriann at the bar was phenomenal. She was very professional and pleasant. Very engaging and friendly. After I checked in and had a long drive from Washington, D.C. I stopped in at the bar for food and a glass of wine and I was very relaxed. She even prepared my food which was AMAZING … great flavor. Yummy. Thank you so much Kerri. Check in was also easy! All the staff was very kind.
We stayed here overnight. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. However, the heat turns off every time you leave the room AND the instructions for how to turn it on are inaccurate--they say to use the thermostat, but it didn't work. Not great.
Great hotel, rooms are nice and clean. The only problem is the ac/ heater than every time it starts, blows very cold air before heating up but on the second night we got used to it and didn't mind it anymore
This place takes the good name of Holiday inn and adds to it :-), the rooms are spotless clean, comes with a small personal safe, mini fridge and a Bible in the drawer, the breakfast buffet is a very nice combination of hot and cold food, just what you need to get the day started, and Location Location Location is very well expressed here, your 8 minutes away from the colonial Williamsburg town, 4 minutes away from the modern Williamsburg, the indoor swimming pool was a nice surprise and the staff is the best, will definitely stay here again.
Hotel Review – Room 305 (One Bedroom Suite) - Sep 18-Sep 21 Pros: The customer service was excellent across the board—from check-in to the restaurant and bar. Every staff interaction was warm and professional. The lobby is inviting and gives a great first impression. Dinner and drinks at the restaurant were outstanding, and our bartender and server provided excellent service. Check-in was quick and efficient, which set a positive tone for the stay. The differently abled parking near the side entrance was a big plus—very convenient for easy access to the building and elevators. The hotel is located in a great area with close access to many frequently visited spots. Cons: The suite itself is in need of updates. The layout was very narrow and felt overcrowded for two people. The two queen beds were placed so close to the walls that they were awkward to get in and out of, especially if both beds were occupied. The room was consistently warm and carried a strong musty/sour odor that even air fresheners couldn’t mask. Pillows were extremely flat, which made resting uncomfortable. The toilet seat was broken and unsightly, needing replacement. Hand soap ran out by Day 2, which was inconvenient. Thankfully, we brought our own backup. Lighting throughout the suite was dim, even with all the lights on. Several towels and sheets were frayed and should be removed from rotation. Charging options were limited near the beds and nightstand. Overall: While the staff, location, and dining experience were excellent, the room itself fell short of expectations. Many of the issues (like the odor, linens, and bathroom fixtures) seem easily fixable with more attention to detail. Because of this, we’ll likely choose a different location in the future. However, for travelers who value service and location above room details, this property may still meet their needs.
This is the most amazing hotel I have ever stay at.- it has become my home away from home as I travel to Williamsburg to visit friends. Even through COVID when staff numbers were low, every employee took on any job needed to keep the hotel running and they did so with caring and kindness.
Upon arrival the front desk attendant didn’t hand anything she kept sitting things that I handed her down on the counter. While assisting me she stopped to help someone else and answer the phones. The rooms are okay. One pillow and blanket had stains on them. The room has a leak from the AC unit so the carpet is wet. I brought it to their attention and they offered to give me another room but it was not comparable to my original. They also said maintenance could come in a fix it which is also not going to work because that’s a huge safety issue for me. They didn’t seem to really think it was a big deal. My family and I are here til Friday and I hope things get better. I don’t think we’ll ever stay here again.
