Guests praise the Williamsburg Lodge for its beautiful, historic aesthetic and unbeatable location in Colonial Williamsburg, but recent reviews consistently point to significant maintenance issues, outdated room conditions, and variable service reliability.
The hotel itself is beautiful, and has a historic charm and fancy that gets you excited to stay there. They have a doorman, and the people at the front desk are excellent. But our room was a bit disappointing. The bathroom was my least favorite aspect - there was no fan, and paint was peeling off the ceiling. In the room, the mattress and pillows were not very comfortable, and they had blackout curtains but were missing any light-filtering curtains, which there was a track for. There also was no microwave, which would have been useful! When we went down for breakfast at the traditions restaurant, we were placed on a waitlist for 20 minutes due to their being shorthanded on staff because even though there was a buffet option, they still opted to have servers bringing drinks and taking payment. There was no shortage of tables or food at the buffet, but they were short on staff which made everything go slower. Lastly, the parking garage they have for the hotel rooms is very small, and it was full when we were trying to get back for the night around 915, and we had to find parking somewhere else. Overall, the room was certainly suitable and bearable, but with the parking and the breakfast, we narrowly escaped a much more stressful weekend.
My husband and I stayed in the Tyler Guesthouse for 2 nights. Shortly after arrival, I went to go rinse off and noticed that not only were there 4 hairs still stuck to the shower walls, but the body wash seemed to be 90% water. The duvet was also just encased in 2 flat sheets, which I found to be odd. The next morning (my birthday), I really wanted breakfast in bed. Tried to order through the "convenient" QR code and a message appeared that said the breakfast menu wasn't available until the following day. Mind you, this was 8am. Finally, my husband called the front desk and was connected to the restaurant, where an employee let him know it was available but they were working out of another kitchen. Communication about that when we checked in would have been nice. My food (biscuits and gravy) was slightly warmer than room temperature and not very good. When I unrolled my silverware, there was another long blonde hair attached to it (might have come from the couch where I laid it down while unpacking the food). The highlight of the trip was the spa, which is worth every penny. Needless to say, next time we'll probably splurge for the Inn instead of the Lodge, in hopes that the only hairs in the room are our own.
We have been coming to Colonial Williamsburg for decades and have stayed in every type room that The Lodge offers-- All are FABULOUS. The aesthetic is old-school, elegant, timeless classic-- as it always has been. The public spaces are comfortable, spacious and beautiful. All the rooms are spacious and well appointed, spotlessly clean with comfy beds-- and all are quiet. The location cannot be beat, the on-site restaurants serve excellent food and are reasonably priced and the staff are gracious, professional and kind. our family looks forward to staying at The Lodge every chance we get!
Sometimes a stay is about more than just a room—and that’s exactly how Williamsburg Lodge feels. While the room itself may be a little dated, the bed is comfy, the room spotlessly clean, and the water pressure in the shower is amazing. What truly sets this place apart is the hospitality: every single person goes above and beyond, from the attendants at the door, to the front desk associates, to the coffee shop staff. They even surprised my daughter with something special for her 13th birthday, which meant the world to us and turned a nice trip into a memorable one. The gym and pool are beautiful. Add in the fact that it’s within easy walking distance to everything (Colonial Williamsburg and the college) the lodge doesn’t disappoint. It’s a special place!
Was here 2 years ago, place was great! Something has definitely changed here. Room was clean but definitely needs maintenance. Outside needs a good pressure washer and a paintbrush. To be a Marriott signature establishment, it could really use some attention. All staff are very friendly and accommodating but you have to ask. Nothing is offered. Very disappointing experience.
We had an excellent stay at the Williamsburg Lodge in the Ashby Guesthouse. Our room was clean, and we enjoyed learning about the Ashby family as we climbed the steps. The location is excellent, and we had no trouble with parking. The staff during check in and throughout our stay were very helpful and friendly. We did not eat at the lodge so cannot speak to the food options, but there are plenty of options in the local area which was nice. Unfortunately, I did try calling for assistance with reservations a few days before our stay and got hung up on. I believe this was an accident and was meant to be put on hold though.
We had a wonderful stay at the Williamsburg Lodge, located right in Colonial Williamsburg. The property is beautiful, well maintained, and perfectly situated—close to everything while still feeling relaxing and peaceful. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the atmosphere blended historic charm with modern comfort. We were especially impressed by the honesty and professionalism of the staff. We accidentally left about $200 in cash in a very obvious place in our room, and housekeeping did not touch a thing. That level of integrity truly stood out and meant a lot to us. The staff overall was friendly and attentive throughout our stay, making everything feel seamless. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.
It feels historic, though I don't know if it is. The rooms are confusing to find, even after finding your own once or twice. Different buildings lead to a maze-like layout. The lounge was o.k., with generous drinks and some ambience, but I left my nice Stetson when we left, never to be found again. My loss. Our room was rudimentary and simple and sparsely furnished. Very tiny bathroom, but functional. Strange drapery mechanism awkward to utilize. Floors and walls all pine wood with aged clear finish. Cozy, kind of. Squeaky walking a given. The bed was surprisingly comfy and accommodating, so that elevated the overall impression for us. Location was pretty good, about better part of a mile to get to the marketplace, where we experienced another annual feast at the Fat Canary. So,so good there. A craft fair was unexpected but enjoyed on the way to the marketplace.
I really wanted to love Williamsburg Lodge because the rooms and the location are honestly amazing. Everything about the stay itself was comfortable, clean, and convenient. The only downside was our experience at the Barley restaurant. It’s a pretty small space and didn’t accommodate our larger party well, even though we had a reservation and they knew we were coming. The bartender made great drinks, but her attitude toward our group was rough from the moment we walked in. We were polite, not loud, and tipped well, so it was disappointing to feel unwelcome. I’d definitely stay here again for the rooms and location and really hope the restaurant service improves because it could be much better, especially during a special Williamsburg event (like Illumination for us yesterday).
We stayed here for the Weekend to Remember, by Family Life, and overall we enjoyed our stay. Reduced a star bc room housekeeping took all the used towels, including the one on the floor outside the shower, and didn't replace it. They didn't restock the coffee pods either, and the lighting is very poor. Positives include very comfortable mattress (that doesn't squeak) and great pillows. The main building where the conference was, the cafe shop attendant was rude and beyond inefficient to handle the large crowds, I would give zero stars for bad service based on that, but the front door attendants, the dinner Sweet Tea & Barley restaurant attendant, and Traditions breakfast attendant and waitresses were extremely pleasant, and deserve 5 stars...
