Staff was nice and helpful. The room was worn out, chipped furniture, peeling paint in the bathroom, ill fitted bed pad, VERY DAMP - bathing suits did not dry, my vitamins even got soggy, we tried increasing the AC but nothing helped. The pool was literally shedding it's liner and had bandaids in the bottom for several days, which meant it wasn't being cleaned! They eventually closed the pool. It needed serious maintenance weeks ago! Hallway and stairwell carpets needed cleaning/replacement. We tried not to be picky but ultimately checked out after one week of our 2 week reservation.

The room itself was nice and clean. The location is great, next to some restaurants and a shopping center across the street and other stores close by. Our neighbors had the whole hallway smelling like marijuana. We don't smoke, so we thought it was extremely unpleasant! After our 5 hour drive, in the pouring rain, we were rudely awakened by someone pulling the fire alarm and causing us all to have to evacuate the building in the middle of the night, in our pajamas. No report was given for the night's events to the next day's staff and they act like they didn't know a thing about it. I would not stay here again.

We stayed for three nights, and unfortunately, the overall condition of the hotel was disappointing. The room looked worn down and poorly maintained, and although it appeared clean at first glance, it quickly became clear that it was not. We found hair in the bed, the toilet had not been cleaned properly, and there was noticeable discoloration on the shower walls. The room also had a stale, mildew-like smell as soon as we walked in. The odor lingered, and we eventually had to spray air freshener ourselves. Chipped furniture, damaged finishes, rough wall repairs, and other visible wear made the room feel old and neglected. The issues were not limited to the room. The elevator was extremely hot and heavily scuffed, the breakfast was mediocre, and the pool looked very uninviting, with a chipped and dirty-looking floor. The staff was friendly, and the location is convenient, with plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. However, the property needs major improvements in both housekeeping and maintenance before I would consider staying again. Courtyard by Marriott, do better.

The people that work here are great, everyone we encounter was polite and willing to answer even if the response is not what you wanted to hear. I appreciate that. Though the leaking ceiling in the pool room and booking a double queen plus 1 sofa bed was not what I got so that was disappointing. Otherwise overall it was okay

After the unacceptable experience my family and I had during our recent stay, I felt it was necessary to formally address my concerns. This was, without question, one of the worst experiences I have had with Marriott, despite my long history of staying with your brand for both business and personal travel, as reflected in my Marriott profile. The condition of our room upon arrival was unacceptable. Before my family could even enter, I had to clean the room myself. The beds had been made with dirty sheets containing someone else's hair and body jewelry. The bathroom floor was dirty, and the bathtub had not been cleaned. These are basic cleanliness standards that should never be overlooked. When I reported the issue, I was informed that we could not be moved to another room due to a burst pipe and a lack of available rooms. An older front desk associate provided me with clean bedding so I could strip and remake the beds myself before my family could sleep. I also had to use our own towels and washcloths to clean the bathroom floor because hair continued to cling to our clothing and socks. This experience was unsanitary, unacceptable, and far below the standards I expect from Marriott. I paid nearly $500 for this stay, yet instead of receiving a clean, comfortable room, I was forced to perform housekeeping duties simply to make the room habitable for my family. I did not book a hotel room for my family to become employees during our stay. My initial email to the staff at the Courtyard by Marriott Newport News Yorktown has been ignored, and my concerns remain unaddressed. As a result, I will be formally escalating this matter.

A Courtyard, large rooms, nothing fancy. Now the details. Large rooms, good water pressure in the shower, ok bed. Given the region driving to get anywhere is 10-20 mins max. I was here for business mid May. It was more than descent. Great, friendly staff. My toilet broke one evening and the front desk person gave me another room. It was inconvenient to move but she tried as much as possible to make it easier. And then apologized for the inconvenience. Good handling. I will come back next time I'm in the region. Parking free and available in the front.

This hotel needs a refresh and warmer lighting. Housekeeping is amazing and the location is also great. Just needs a little warmth. There is also a musty smell throughout the hotel.

Spacious for a family stay and conveniently located. The room was very outdated and not clean. We had to vacuum the floor ourselves because of paint chips all over the floor. No other staff was on site except for front desk.

The rooms are clean and I cannot say enough about how amazing the staff here are.. they have treated my children and I so well. Always friendly and overly willing to help with everything and with a positive welcoming attitude. I wish there were more people like this! Definitely must stay here!

Nice staff. But the room was dirty, the second floor smelled like weed, and on our first night, there was a party raging until 2AM. Definitely not staying here again.
