The Fairfield Inn & Suites Williamsburg consistently receives mixed reviews, primarily centered around issues with room condition, cleanliness, and service inconsistencies. Recent feedback highlights significant concerns regarding outdated rooms, maintenance problems, and a lack of adherence to Marriott Bonvoy elite benefits, alongside occasional positive remarks about staff friendliness and breakfast quality. Overall, the property appears to be experiencing challenges in maintaining quality standards.
: Elite benefits are not honored here. Avoid if you value status. I was explicitly told by the front desk that because I booked the "Explorer Rate," this property refuses to honor late checkout or any other Marriott Bonvoy Elite benefits (I am a Platinum/Titanium member). If a property chooses to opt out of standard brand loyalty perks based on rate type, that policy needs to be transparently disclosed before booking. Devaluing loyalty status at check-in is incredibly disappointing and unacceptable for a Marriott brand.
Frustrating: Don’t expect an emailed receipt. After calling the next day 6-4-26 at 8:20 pm looking for a receipt that I never received. They say they don’t have my email address, yet every other Marriott I stay at does with my rewards number. So they sent it again to me twice, yet I do not receive it. I’m told they don’t have time to send it again and hang up. What a joke. Get a print out when checking out of this place. Our business will not be staying here for our project the rest of the year.
Room 302. Do not stay in this room. First of all, it needs to be fully remodeled, as there are cracks in the walls and the ceiling has a droopy popcorn finish where you can see water damage and plaster patching. It feels like a scene from a scary movie. The door jam looks like the room has been broken into with an ax. The pictures, TVs and placards are all crooked. The fixtures are curious, as in, the sprinkler is dangling down, loose -right over where you sleep. Could there be a hidden camera in there? Idk ???? The two tvs are miniature. I could barely see the screen from the velour 25 year old love seat, ten feet away from the tv. The maid didn’t notice the huge black leather men’s G-string -left by the previous guest on the ground under the table/desk. Did she vacuum? ? A dog collar with a rubber ball fixed in the middle was left on the loveseat. I dared not pull the loveseat away from the wall. I am not kidding about the above.?? So,we stopped at the front desk, to tell about the stuff we found. …the attendant came and removed the sex items, however our room was left with the door ajar. Like it was OPEN. -Because of the uneven door jam. So we returned to our room hours later with our belongings left in it and left completely vulnerable! !!!!! This place looks nothing like the photos on the website. Should not be allowed to have Marriott name on your property. I don’t think it’s too much to expect a visually appealing, normally maintained room. Y’all, there are other good choices in town, skip this one.
The rooms are distinctly lacking in updates and cleanliness. While technically the sheets may be clean they don’t remotely fit on the smaller than average bed. It seems they put twin sheets on double beds. Sinks don’t drain, carpets are stained, a/c rattles, curtains are stained, toilet tank lid and seat don’t actually match the toilet so nothing lines up properly…. The problems go on and on. As a long time Marriott member I will not return.
DO NOT BOOK AT THIS DIRTY RAN DOWN HOTEL! I stayed at the Fairfield by Marriott in Williamsburg, VA on February 20, 2026. While check-in was smooth and the Manager on Duty was polite, the room I was assigned presented serious cleanliness and safety concerns. Upon entering, I immediately noticed the closet door frame was detached from the wall. There was also a visible crack running from the ceiling downward during heavy rainfall, which raised concerns about structural integrity. The furniture, walls, and bedframe had noticeable chips, dents, and wear consistent with a room that should have been taken out of service. More concerning, I observed what appeared to be an insect consistent with a bed bug near the doorway, along with what looked like larvae. On the pull-out sofa, there was a visible stain consistent with bodily fluids. At that point, I contacted Marriott customer service while still inside the room and documented everything on video. I went downstairs and discreetly showed the Manager on Duty the footage. She stated the credit card hold would be reversed. I had paid nearly $500 for the weekend and was told it would take 5–10 business days for the funds to return. I then had to book another Marriott approximately 15 miles away at an additional cost of nearly $500. In the rush to leave the room due to health concerns, I inadvertently left behind one of my new Air Jordan sneakers. When I called to inquire, the response from the staff member who answered was dismissive and unprofessional. I have since filed a formal case with Marriott. The condition of this room raised legitimate health and safety concerns and should not have been available for guest occupancy. I expect far higher standards from a Marriott-branded property. Travelers should be aware before booking.
I give it overall three because the hotel's a little tired and needs to refurbish their furniture, and TVs. However, it was clean. It was handy. It was very well priced. Staff was very nice and the breakfast buffet was fine.
Our family just came home from a 3 nights stay here. From the warm welcome we received to the large, comfortable rooms to the amazing breakfast, our stay was very enjoyable. Our kids loved the pool. We found the hotel to be very clean, quiet, and kid-friendly. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend to others.
This location felt more "budget hotel" than the normal Marriott standard. The room was so small and cramped. The bedding was awful- 3 layers of mattress pads/sheet that were too small and kept pulling off through the night. The sheets/comforter are the three thin layers that aren't connected and seem so cheap. Fixtures were rusted and looked dirty. Breakfast was chaos with what I assume was a fairly sold out night. Not nearly enough seating for the size of hotel. Parking is limited near the building, which didn't make me feel safe.
Just spent 4 nights at this hotel and had a very positive experience! The staff and manager are all incredibly nice. The hotel and room were clean. The indoor pool was lovely, my kids and I were always the only ones in the big pool which was fun! The free breakfast was good every morning too. Central to everything we wanted to do. Easy drive to colonial areas, Great Wolf Lodge, and Busch Gardens. I would definitely stay here again.
Great location near shopping, dining and not far from Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Nice selection for breakfast. Parking can be little tricky when busy as parking lot is shared by another building and hotel next store. Plenty of parking, may just have to walk a little more. Room was clean and large. Front desk staff pleasant. Good place to stay if in area and includes breakfast daily.
