The Rodeway Inn Historic offers a budget-friendly stay in the Williamsburg area, with convenient access to Colonial Williamsburg and other attractions. However, recent reviews indicate a decline in property maintenance, cleanliness, and staff service, alongside some operational issues like malfunctioning equipment and inconsistent breakfast offerings.

1 star rating because a negative value option was not available. The room #325 is a complete disaster. Filthy. Blood on the walls by the door, looks like someone took a beating by the door. Roof leaked. At some point, someone tried to kick the door down.door jamb separated from wall. Considering sleeping in the car. Do not recommend staying here. The homeless have better accommodations.

My family has been staying here for between 5-6 years, multiple times each year. We really loved it the first few years and everything was great. The last few times we noticed a big difference in the level of cleanliness and the rate at which the rooms were becoming run-down/not kept up. The main manager is pretty abrupt/rude and very uncomfortable to talk to. The last time we stayed was during December 2025 and they did not disclose that the heat was out for the entire property. We checked in with small children and only had a space heater. The rooms were freezing and we were not the only upset clients. The manager was nasty with us when we asked what was going on and did not seem to understand why we had an issue with no heat in December freezing conditions. That night was between 9 and 14 degrees. Between no heat and the level of hatefulness we received, we called choice hotels and asked them to find us another hotel. We had to pack the kids up late and night and move everyone. We still really miss this place and the great memories we had there before it went so far downhill. Everytime we pass it, it feels like such a shame but it’s just not what it used to be. I will say the only bright spot was the lady they and the other guy they had running the desk (Not the manager), they were both genuinely nice folks and were doing the best they could given what they have to work with. I don’t think Christine still works there but she was a gem.

This is not a good place to stay in winter because rooms are heated with space heaters. Everything else was great. The attendant was very nice. They will only give you one extra blanket per room.

Not a bad place for the price. Rooms are dated but clean overall, thought the wine bottle opener inside bathroom true to the age of the place. Old and well used but bed was firm and comfy. T.v. was a bit small for distance between bed and TV stand. Room was cold but the had a space heater inside that made it quit comfortable. Bathroom light was a timer switch. For those needing breakfast just know 8am is serve time. I didnt have time to partake due to early leave needs. So just be aware. It was nice that they dont do incidental holds.

This place was very quaint like staying at your grandparents house. Our room was clean. The breakfast was simple. The breakfast offered was a cold breakfast offering cereal, coffee, juice and muffins. There is a microwave and mini fridge in the room. We would stay again. It’s simple and functional.

The beds weren't very comfortable and I found hair on my sheets. The heat didn't work very well either. I had to use two covers to get warm. I would not at all call the breakfast continental, they should really change it to just a "small breakfast serving small muffins and cereal with black coffee and orange juice". The service from the one lady in there was not a good one, she had attitude, tilting her head with an aggravated look on her face when I walked in to tell her something. Both guys there were friendly. The location is convenient and an easy drive to where I wanted to go. Sorry, I would not recommend staying here.

I stayed here recently while in town for a concert down in Hampton. This was a perfectly acceptable place to stay in a high-demand area that seems to have a lot of issues with hotel quality for more budget-friendly hotels. The price point was excellent for my visit, mid-November Fri/Sat for roughly $80 a night all-in. My room was very decent, with no signs of any insects anywhere, clean sheets and towels, and a window-installed air conditioning unit that was effective. The bathroom was also clean, stocked with standard soap/toiletries, and the shower had warm water with good pressure. The bed was comfy - not too soft, stiff, or lumpy in any way, and the top blankets were hefty if it does get cold. Microwave, mini-fridge, and TV were present and functioning. I know those are typically standard, but I've seen even nicer brand hotels foregoing those as of late. Staff at the front desk were very friendly and quick for check-in and check-out. The only two complaints I had were: 1) There was a large crack in one side of the shower wall. This looked like somewhat new paneling, so it was sad that it cracked already. 2) The chain lock was missing for the door. Fortunately, the deadbolt was there, so I was not worried. I did not try the hotel breakfast, but the neighboring Colonial Pancake House was fantastic and is practically attached to that corner of the hotel lot. A minute walk from my room. Otherwise, a great decision for a no-frills, cheap, clean stay in the Williamsburg area. I liked the themed aesthetic of the inn that matches the area, and the traditional-looking outward-swinging doors were a nice touch to cover up the more modern inward-swinging doors. Will absolutely consider returning here next time I'm in the area, and I hope they keep up the good standard!

False advertising on website! There is NO continental breakfast. Breakfast opens at 8. At 8:10 there was 1 person eating. There were 10 slices of bread, 1 mini muffin like the little bites sold at grocery stores in a box of pouches with each pouch containing 5 bites, and 1/2 a canister each of cereal. On a positive note, Shawn was professional and polite at check in. Room was clean and bed was comfortable.

We reserved a room for a 2 day stay while visiting Bush Gardens. Aug 6th thru 8th. 2025. We arrived early and inquired about possibly checking in early. King reservation was changed to double queen. We dropped our stuff in the room, used the bathroom and washed our faces and went out to eat when we returned a took a closer look at the room. Black hair was frozen in the freezer. Several more black hair was on one of the beds, under the covers on the sheets. I requested a room change and was refused when the clerk lied and stated they were full. The online app showed they weren't full. He was rude and refused to provide a name. I contacted choice and was refunded our money. We stayed at a much nicer and newer Comfort Inn property. We're choice club members and have never been treated so poorly. We actually stayed at this property several years prior without issues. Never again. It's dated and dirty and the front staff member who claimed to be there 27 years was practically toothless, rude and ignorant. Pay a little extra and go anywhere else.

BEWARE! You get what you pay for…and JAY—NEEDS TO BE FIRED!! This is a subpar motel with nearly no restaurants available in the Historic area of Williamsburg. I stayed there because of the proximity to Busch Gardens only. It was a stuffy old room. The website’s pictures do not match the room I had which was misleading and shameful. But, I should’ve heeded other negative reviews before I booked. Definitely run down, and cheap, so low life riff-raff stay here. Cooking out, being rowdy, smoking their weed. That’s not legal in my state. The Kicker…was when JAY told me I had NO Housekeeping because I was staying for a week! This isn’t an extended stay hotel where they don’t offer housekeeping! I had to get my own towels and sheets and make my own bed! Supposedly, the staff is limited, so anyone staying over a day or two doesn’t get service…according to Jay! He was very rude and sharp with me. When Jay brought sheets to my room, I said never mind, I got them from the “NON-EXISTENT” housekeeper!! When I checked out, I talked with Shannon, and she asked Shawn if he was hearing what I was saying. She was very pleasant and apologized and said they would talk to the Property Manager about my experience. Shannon was not surprised about my complaint, this was Not the First Time people complained about JAY—-he needs to go! No one deserves that kind of disrespect and mistreatment! Stay at your own risk. Never again for me.
