This Homewood Suites receives mixed guest feedback; while previous and some recent stays praise the friendly staff, spacious kitchens, and convenient location, a significant number of reviews, particularly those following management changes, report severe cleanliness issues, operational failures, and dated furniture that do not align with Hilton standards.
I stayed at this location for a quick road trip for a concert at the Hampton Colisseum. The location is great...not too far from the highway and there are plenty of shopping centers, restaurants, gas stations etc in the vicinity. The women at the check in desk were very friendly and helpful. My only complaints are that I didn't get my free water as a Hilton member (I saw someone on the elevator with her water in a bag) and the housekeeping person woke me up by banging on people's doors early in the morning. It was so loud it sounded like she was banging on my door! I was annoyed because it was an hour before my alarm was set to go off. You could also hear people talking and laughing in other rooms on the floor. Not a big deal for me, but if you prefer a quiet atmosphere, take that into consideration as the sound proofing isn't the best. They offer free breakfast but I didn't try it, so I can't speak to the offerings. Parking is free. You just need to register your car and obtain a parking pass when you check in. Overall, the room was nice. I had a King suite which had all of the amenities. It would be a nice location for an extended stay. I would stay here again.
Our family had such a beautiful experience at Homewood Suites by Hilton Yorktown Newport News. We stayed there while waiting to move into our new home, and what could have been a stressful time turned into such a comforting and memorable chapter for us. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were always greeted with the warmest smiles. The front desk staff truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and cared for. Mrs. Kelly, Sean, and Mrs. Karen were especially incredible. They didn’t just do their jobs they made genuine connections with us. They remembered us, spoke to our children with kindness, and always made us feel like we belonged there. Seeing them each day became something our kids genuinely looked forward to. As a parent, that meant everything. Housekeeping did an amazing job keeping our suite clean, fresh, and fully stocked. It gave us such peace of mind during a time when we were in between homes. The hotel felt safe, comfortable, and truly like a home away from home. The location is perfect close to restaurants and shopping centers, which made daily life so convenient. We also appreciated having access to the gym and laundry facilities, especially during a longer stay. This wasn’t just a hotel stay for us it was a place where we felt supported and welcomed during a big life transition. We are so grateful for the kindness shown to our family. If we ever need a place to stay again, this will absolutely be our first choice, and we will gladly recommend it to our friends and loved ones. Thank you for making our family feel so cared for. ?
Ms. Karen at front desk was very nice and helpful with me checking me in to my room. Top notch customer service. The room is very nice and clean and spacious. It’s nice having a couch and chairs to sit in after work without having to just sit on your bed.
I recently stayed at this location due to the great reviews of cleanliness. BIG MISTAKE. Upon entering the room, I noticed that the floors were left completely untouched by the housekeepers. There were clipped fingernails in the bathroom floor, dirt in the kitchenette, BLOOD on the bathroom door, hair in the shower. I believe the bedsheets were changed (hopefully) and that was it. We arrived to the hotel very late after a trip to Busch Gardens and were in a rush to put our daughter down for the night. Thankfully we brought a pack n play for her because I didn’t even allow for her to walk around. We went to breakfast the next morning where the waffle mix was taken up early and I had to ask for forks. Overall this stay wasn’t a good one and they are refusing even partial compensation. Absolutely would not recommend.
1. The staff; all of them; were cordial, friendly and courteous. 2. Lobby and foyer was neat, clean, well maintained, and stocked with flyers of local and state attractions as well as upcoming events. There was also a copies of thr local business/community "Oyster Pointer" news paper. 3. Parking lot was clean, well maintained, and had sufficient security lighting. The was also a night security staff member on duty. Unaware of training nor observed if armed unless firearm was concealed. 4. Breakfast had a variety of selections with a few changes each day. The dining area was cool on cold and windy mornings. 5. Business and fitness center, pool, and self-service laundry was not used. 6. Room stocked with personal demand items. All lamps and lights were operational, included a large iron for ironing and touch-up of clothing. 7. The laundry basket was a plus of doing one's own laundry. 8. Facility elevator was in service but if one was waiting he/she had no idea of it's location during the wait. 9. Not aware of local fire codes but the west stairwell fire door was off the hinges and again the wall which could have probably provided air if there was a fire in the building. 10. There was a generator or another construction piece of equipment nearby that was started several mornings.
The hotel is outdated and needs a remodel. The chairs at the counter in my room are so gross. Stains, dirt etc. You can tell the furniture in the rooms are not properly maintained. They need to be steam cleaned. The difference between the chairs in the lobby and in the room are night and day. The housekeeping was abysmal. Out of the 8 nights we were there, we were serviced ONCE. Even though the hotel mentions we are serviced every other day. I even sent pictures of house keeping dumping our dirty towels outside our room and did not replace them. After a long day of being a care giver I had to go down the lobby to get clean towels. Toilet tank didnt refill in one of the bathrooms. Requested service and they never came. We had to keep fixing it ourselves. Breakfast and the front desk staff are the only reason I won’t give this hotel a 1 star.
Big mistake to make a last minute decision to stay at this hotel. The front desk staff were kind, however, I felt they charged a higher rate. The room was dirty and the staff who were serving breakfast spent their time in the dining area watching CNN news and expressing their personal experiences.
I had a great stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton Yorktown Newport News. The hotel was spotless, and the staff was warm and welcoming. My room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. Spacious rooms with smart TVs and full kitchens Breakfast was fresh, warm, and offered plenty of options. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy, and there was ample parking. The location is convenient—right near the highway and main road, with plenty of stores and restaurants nearby.
I got married on July 25, 2025, and reserved rooms at this hotel for myself and my guests. I spoke with the general manager in advance to arrange a contract, yet more than half of my nine total rooms including my own ended up being booked outside of it. What was supposed to be one of the happiest weekends of my life turned into a complete disaster, filled with embarrassment and disappointment. From the moment we checked in, the experience was unacceptable. The hotel smelled of smoke immediately upon entering the rooms. There was only one luggage cart, and it was filthy—covered in pet or doll hair. When I brought this to the general manager’s attention, she dismissed it by saying, “It’s a pet-friendly hotel.” That is not an excuse—cleanliness and guest health should always be a priority. The rooms were dirty, damaged, and poorly maintained. My wedding coordinator had to leave and purchase bleach and cleaning supplies just to clean her tub, which was covered in old caulking and mold. She said she felt unsafe even bathing there. My own room had a slippery film on the floor from residue. The sofa bed was full of body hair. The bathroom never had hot water. Another guest’s bed lifted off the floor when someone sat at the edge. Furniture was missing in some rooms. One of my guests couldn’t even stay in her assigned room due to how broken and uncomfortable it was—she had to sleep in mine. The general manager, Diane, did absolutely nothing to make it right. No apology, no sense of urgency, no solutions. The only person who helped at all was Angela at the front desk, who moved me to a larger room at 1:30 AM. Even that room had blood on the sheets, cold water, and an unstable bed. To make things worse, when I spoke with Diane about the fact that one of my guests paid $30 less than I did for the same room, she refused to honor the lower price despite me being the bride and the one who arranged the group contract. Her excuse? I didn’t book under the contract. No flexibility, no compassion. One of my guests who is also an American Express cardholder traveled for both work and my wedding. She booked her room through Hilton and used her government rate. She also happens to be the same guest who couldn’t stay in her room due to the broken bed and ended up staying with me. Instead of listening to her concerns, Diane’s only response was, “How did you receive a government discount if you’re here for a wedding?” She was more focused on policing her rate than resolving the actual issue—the fact that the guest couldn’t even use her room. Diane was condescending, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. It became painfully clear that the staff is limited in what they can do because this hotel is not owned by Hilton. A team member told me directly that it is privately owned and the owners do not maintain it to Hilton’s standards. The front desk staff (outside of management) were kind, but openly admitted they were unable to address many of the issues. This entire experience was humiliating. Every guest spent hundreds of dollars to stay in a hotel that didn’t come close to what Hilton promises. If not for the kindness of Angela, our room would have never been changed. But even with the change, nothing was truly resolved. If I hadn’t been getting married and more than an hour from home, I would have left immediately. It was a waste of money and a complete failure of leadership and service. I am beyond disappointed. I would never recommend this hotel—not for a special event, not for business travel, not even for a night in passing. Hilton should be ashamed to have its name associated with this property.
Me and my family of 6 stayed here for two nights. We were very impressed with the rooms and the hotel grounds. We felt comfortable and cozy in our room. No issues with noise or other people. The pool was nice and warm and clean. I highly recommend this hotel!
